The Anishinabek are paying tribute to Beatrice Faubert Whiteduck, who passed into the Spirit World in her 101st year on Dec. 1st, 2013.

“We will always remember her placing wreaths on Remembrance Day as the honoured Silver Cross Mother for Nipissing First Nation,” says Grand Council Chief Patrick Madahbee. “Beatrice was symbolic of the contributions made to our communities by our women.”

At the age of 31, Beatrice Whiteduck was widowed to raise nine children after her husband Lawrence was killed in action Aug. 8, 1944 in France during World War II.
