Cheechoo’s latest album ‘Stay’ available to download

Thelma Cheechoo Stay Cover Art copy (3)THUNDER BAY – Thelma Cheechoo’s latest album “Stay” is available on iTunes, CD baby and Amazon with the physical CD being available in February 2015.

In 2004, Thelma began writing for this new project and was hoping to record these songs for a new album.

“An opportunity came along to attend university, which put my new album project on hold indefinitely,” says Cheechoo who is a singer/songwriter from Moose Factory.

Born into a large musical family, Cheechoo began touring at a young age as part of a family band called “The Cheechoo Family”. She went on to a solo career in the late 90’s after “The Cheechoo Family” decided to part ways and do individual music projects.

“STAY” features nine songs including eight original songs with the exception of a haunting rendition of “Wayfaring Stranger” – a gospel tune from the 1800s.

Cheechoo’s performing and writing spans work for over a decade. Her artistic vision has been with her since she emerged as an independent artist performing in First Nations in the James and Hudson Bay coast in the late 90’s.  She has also toured on and off across Canada from 2000 to 2008.

Although, she has never stopped performing, doing music workshops, and speaking engagements, her new Album “STAY”, re-affirms Cheechoo’s passion for music and her artistic vision.

While enrolled in graduate studies at Lakehead University she also worked on a two-year research project that opened her eyes to the social, health and educational issues affecting many First Nations.
