SARNIA – Four men from Aamjiwnaang First Nation swept the Ontario Valley National 8-Ball League Association (OVNEA) tournament on Feb. 8 without a single loss.

Will Jacobs, Tony Jacobs, Bill Aiken and Jim Brunner – known as the “Wet Cues” had a lot of support from other Anishinabek Nation members from the Southwestern Region.

“Shooting comes natural to many of our members and the hunt for the tournament championship is always good and even sweeter when we can do this back-to-back with a good team of guys,” said Tony Jacobs.

The “Wet Cues” have been playing together for a number of years, but they also participated in the Singles play in the tournament.  The team went several rounds in tough competition from 20 other teams and with some great pool players but won the Copper Championships for a second year in a row.

Some 200 players including 40 Anishinabek Nation citizens participated in the tournament  from across Ontario including Wikwemikong, Oneida, Kettle and Stony Point and Bkejwanong Territories. Nation members were represented in all categories: Copper, Bronze, Silver and Gold sections. The various sections signify the successes of these members over the years and their places in various league plays. Most are within the lower tiers but Bkejwanong had two members of the Shognosh family playing in the Gold sections of the tournament who had great success.
