Mnaasged thanks businesses who helped at Christmas

MUNSEE-DELAWARE – Mnaasged Child and Family Services delivered six “Thank You” plaques to local organizations and businesses that have made a big contribution to its Toy and Food Drive this past December 2014.

The Mnaasged Executive Director, Carrie Tabobundung and Executive Assistant Cheryl Riley were out delivering the plaques this week for recognition of the assistance.

“They were so grateful and tickled at these thank you plaques,” said Riley.  “We thanked businesses and organizations for one of our most successful Toy and Food Drives.

Participating businesses and organizations were:  Stepping Stones, London District Chiefs Council & Secretariat, Paradise Bingo (Munsee Delaware) and Bear Creek Gas Bar, Scott and Elena Cornelius, and Maitlands Gas Bar – owners Dwayne French (Chippewas of the Thames First Nation)

Mnaasged Child & Family Services is a pre-mandated child welfare organization established in February 2003. Pre-mandated means that they are still a prevention service only and not able to apprehend children. Pre-mandated MCFS is on formal track to become mandated by the Ministry of Child & Youth Services in keeping with the vision of the London Districts Chiefs Council.

Mnaasged Child & Family Services stakeholders are the seven nations of the London District Chiefs , Aamjiwnaang First Nation, Kettle & Stony Point, Munsee Delaware Nations, Moravian of the Thames, Caldwell First Nation, Oneida of the Thames and Chippewas of the Thames.

The organization also uses an Elders Council.  Their role is advocating for our families both at the community level and the Corporation’s level and the CAS level with alternative dispute resolution, they number 13 and come from all the seven First Nations of the LDCC.

Carrie Tabobundung said that Mnaasged has a charitable number for donations.

“We have to do our own fundraising for various programs and services for the families that we work with,” said Tabobundung.

Their next big fundraiser will be a Toonie Auction.

Jackie French, Chippewa, Munsee, Oneida area Supervisor said “Over 32 Families received assistance from the Toy Drive in the Chippewa/Muncey/Oneida communities as MCFS satellite sites did their own toy drives as well”. we service altogether approximately 200 plus families  in various services over the year, we are here to assist the communities and families where they need it most with the Children.”
