Madahbee congratulates new Nishnawbe-Aski Nation Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler

anishlogoUnion of Ontario Indians Offices (August 12, 2015) – Anishinabek Nation Grand Council Chief Patrick Madahbee congratulates newly-elected Nishnawbe-Aski Nation Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler. Grand Chief Fiddler was elected with 30 votes in the first round of elections in Aroland First Nation Wednesday morning.

Grand Council Chief Madahbee also acknowledged the contributions of the two other candidates – Harvey Yesno and Les Louttit.

Fiddler has work experience in the Health field, served as his community’s Deputy Chief, and was elected Deputy Grand Chief of Nishnawbe-Aski Nation in 2003.

As Deputy Grand Chief, Alvin was responsible for the Health, Youth, Justice, Recreation and Communication portfolios.

Alvin joined the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in 2010 as Manager of Regional Liaisons and Ontario Regional Liaisons.

He also played a pivotal role in the advocacy that led to both the Iacobucci Review and the inquest into the deaths of seven NAN youth who died while attending high school in Thunder Bay.

“I look forward to working with Grand Chief Fiddler in his role as Nishnawbe-Aski Nation Grand Chief.” stated Madahbee.
