First Nation citizens urged to come to important education meeting on Saturday, October 1 in London

UOI OFFICES (September 29, 2016) –  All Anishinabek citizens who live in the London area are encouraged to come out to an information session about the Anishinabek Education System Saturday evening where they also have an opportunity to vote on the education agreement.

Citizens from any of the following 30 communities are eligible to vote at this session:

Chippewas of Kettle & Stony Point, Aamjiwnaang, Munsee-Delaware, Mississaugas of Scugog, Georgina Island, Alderville, Beausoleil, Rama, Fort William, Long Lake #58, Zhiibaahaasing, Dokis, Garden River, Whitefish River, Moose Deer Point, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, Wahnapitae, Mississauga #8, Magnetawan, Michipicoten, Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek (Rocky Bay), Aundek Omni Kaning, Sheguiandah, Wasauksing, Pic Mobert, Biigtigong Nishnaabeg (Pic River), Henvey Inlet, Sheshegwaning, Red Rock and Nipissing.

Anishinabek Nation Grand Council Chief Patrick Madahbee says it’s important for Anishinabek to come hear about the benefits of the education agreement and have the opportunity to vote at this information session.

“It is time to find out about the benefits of the education agreement and mail in your ballots,” says Grand Council Chief Madahbee.  “This means more per-student funding.  This is for our children.”

The recognition by Canada of the Anishinabek First Nations’ jurisdiction over primary, elementary and secondary education, and the funding to operate the Anishinabek Education System (AES), a stand-alone, parallel, education system, makes up the proposed education self-government agreement with Canada
