The Northern Ontario Research Alliance on Human Trafficking for the Purpose of Sexual Exploitation (NORAHT) invites applications for an experienced facilitator for eight participatory action research workshops.
NORAHT is a research partnership between Nipissing University, the Union of Ontario Indians, Amelia Rising Sexual Assault Centre of Nipissing, and the AIDS Committee of North Bay and Area. A Partnership Development Grant from the Social Sciences and Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) generously supports NORAHT’s research. The project aims to mobilize knowledge in order to enhance institutional and community capacities to better respond to the needs of trafficked people in Northeastern Ontario, and to recommend social policy measures for the prevention of human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
The successful applicant will be expected to lead Participatory Action Research (PAR) based focus groups with service providers and stakeholders interested in addressing human trafficking across Northeastern Ontario. Focus groups will be held in a variety of geographic locations across Northeastern Ontario primarily in May and June of 2017, with additional focus groups to be determined as the research progresses (possibly fall/winter 2017/2018).
Applicants must have a background in group facilitation with Indigenous communities, and will have advanced knowledge, awareness and practices that align with respectful cross cultural collaborations. Given the nature of the research topic, the ideal facilitator will have a strong social action lens, and a feminist orientation would be considered an asset. As the facilitator will play a key role in this PAR research, some experience in this approach would be preferred.
Past experience working in the north would also be considered an asset. Candidates from Canada’s employment equity groups (i.e. Indigenous peoples, members of visible minorities, persons with disabilities, and women) are encouraged to apply.
Applications should include the following:
- Cover letter (1-2 pages)
- CV (2 pages max)
- 3 References (including names, relationship to you, and contact information)
Applications and inquiries should be submitted:
- By email to: firstname.lastname@example.org – subject line: Facilitator application
Application Deadline: Applications will be received on an ongoing basis until the position is successfully filled.
NORAHT thanks all applicants; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
