Batchewana First Nation Logging Trial

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON(February 10, 2017) – Batchewana First Nation (BFN) is asking for supporters to attend the Sault Ste. Marie courthouse on Monday February 13, 2017 at 2:00 P.M.

The trial where Batchewana First Nation members have faced a prosecution for logging on their own lands, wrongfully taken from in a fraudulent surrender in 1859 by what is known as the Pennefather Treaty.  These charges arose in 2008 since that time BFN has provided a wealth of evidence to support their claim. The decision rendered on February 13, 2017 will have enormous impacts for First Nations across the country.
