NORTH BAY-Reconciliation requires listening, understanding and action. Action takes place at the North Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre through Community Action Circles of the Urban Aboriginal Strategy.

When introducing Reconciliation North Bay Action Circle, the Chair, Nipissing University President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mike DeGagne said, “We will call on local people, local champions to act and help us.”

North Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre has taken on the coordination of Community Action Circles through the Urban Aboriginal Strategy (UAS). It aims to strengthen individuals, families and communities through social and economic opportunities by being a strong voice for Indigenous Peoples in North Bay.

Now with the drive to establish working Community Action Circles, the UAS mobilizes the non-Indigenous and Indigenous communities to address racism, promote cross-cultural learning, increase awareness, and respect for Indigenous culture. The action plan includes culturally safe services.

The UAS Assistant Coordinator Tashina Maiangowi is encouraging community members to step forward to engage in the Community Action Circles to help North Bay on the journey of Reconciliation.
