Long-time councillor passes into the Spirit World

ANISHINABEK NATION HEAD OFFICE (Nipissing First Nation) January 11, 2018 – Anishinabek Nation Grand Council Chief sends out condolences to family and friends of long-time councillor at Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, George Henry.

Madahbee says he first met George in 1975.  He was a councillor for decades; serving his First Nation.

“He was very active and a strategic thinker,” says Grand Council Chief Madahbee.  “He was always involved with youth promotion and self-determination for his community.  George also a water protector and walked to bring awareness to water issues. He was also an entrepreneur with the Antler River Trading Company.   My condolences to his family at this time.”

George will be also missed among vendors on the pow-wow trail who became more like family.  He enjoyed showing Indigenous pride through the t-shirts he sold.

Friends will be received by the family at the Elliott Madill Funeral Home Mt. Brydges for an Anishinaabek wake on Friday January 12th from 6pm – 10pm. Funeral Service to be held on Saturday at 11am from the Chippewa Community Center.  Interment Colbourne Cemetery. Followed by a feast at Chippewa Community Centre.
