Anishinabek Nation and Ministry of Northern Development and Mines – ‘Niigan Ga Zhaamin – Moving Forward Together’
TORONTO (May 28, 2015) –The Anishinabek Nation Grand Council Chief Patrick Wedaseh Madahbee and the Minister of Mineral Development and Mines Michael Gravelle, met today in Toronto to continue working on a positive and productive relationship. Both the Anishinabek Nation and Ontario have shared priorities in the mineral and mines sector.
“I look forward to establishing an ongoing relationship with the Minister of Northern Development and Mines as identified in the letter of commitment that was signed on June 25, 2013,” stated Grand Council Chief Madahbee. “These types of meetings provide an opportunity for the Anishinabek Nation Leadership and the Minister of Northern Development and Mines to work towards resolutions of any concerns regarding the areas of mutual interest within the Anishinabek Nation.”
“I am very pleased that we were able to come together today for a second bilateral leadership meeting. We discussed areas of mutual interest such as our mineral development sector, capacity issues, and resource benefit sharing. This meeting has built upon the foundation of our government’s long standing and positive relationship with the Union of Ontario Indians-Anishinabek Nation,” said Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development and Mines.
The Letter of Commitment commits the Grand Council Chief of the Anishinabek Nation and the Minister of Northern Development and Mines to meet twice annually, build on positive relationships, review mutual priorities, provide direction, work towards resolution and exchange ideas.
