Little Spirit Singers recognized for their contributions

PARRY SOUND—In recognition and in celebration of being recipients of the 2015 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Youth Achievement, Chief and Council and citizens of Wasauksing First Nation gathered for feasting and drumming for the joyous occasion.
The Little Spirit Singers of Wasauksing, accompanied by their mentor and matriarch, Deina Bomberry, travelled to Queens Park on February 26, to receive the award from The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
Deina, a teacher in Wasauksing Kinomaugewgaamik, nurtured the singing group from its genesis several years ago as a group of young people who wanted to sing to an entity that is in demand to perform at various civic functions. The group of singers age ranges from early elementary to adolescents in secondary school.
Mayor Jamie McGarvey, of Parry Sound was on hand to recognize their contributions on behalf of the Council of the town of Parry Sound, with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Town.
Mayor McGarvey spoke words of appreciation and encouragement to the young achievers.
Chief Warren Tabobondung and Councillor Roberta Judge Clements expressed pride and appreciation for the accomplishments of the young ladies and encouragement in future.
Chief Tabobondung acknowledged such endeavours as an element of “nurturing leadership qualities” for the community.
