The Anishinabek Nation met with representatives of the Ministry of Transportation on July 4 and 5 in Thunder Bay.

THUNDER BAY–The Anishinabek Nation met with representatives of the Ministry of Transportation on July 4 and 5 in Thunder Bay. Regional Deputy Grand Council Chief for the Northern Superior Region was in attendance and provided his perspectives on opportunities and barriers for First Nations in procurement.

Red Rock Indian Band and Pic Mobert First Nation shared their success stories about successful MTO procurement projects in their respective community.

To enhance the opportunities for Indigenous businesses to be awarded MTO contracts, an asset inventory project is being initiated. This project will identify community assets including equipment, businesses and individuals with the training and expertise to complete MTO projects.

The Anishinabek Nation is working to establish procurement guidelines and policies that will enhance opportunities for employment in the sector.

The next Technical Table meeting is scheduled for this fall.

We are still seeking two (2) new Anishinabek Nation representatives from the Southwestern Region of Ontario to participate on the Technical Table. Please contact Lynn Moreau me if you are interested in participating.
