AAMJIWNAANG FIRST NATION— Talented entrepreneur and artist Aaron Plain, is a great example of dedication and an inspiration for young Anishinaabe.

Plain began his creative journey in 2004, as an artist with aspirations for art and business.

Higher Education and training took him from Aamjiwnaang, Kitchener, Corunna, Las Vegas and back. Plain has studied the Fine Arts; Horticulture, Arborist, and Landscape Design; and Architectural Illustrating.

Plain had been working at a garden center where he assisted the company incorporate a design department, and it was then that he decided to pursue his own dreams. He started up his own company in 2016.

Plain’s company, FineArtscape Designs and Architectural Illustrations, is a melting pot of art, architecture and horticulture. The company focuses on landscape design operation and works closely with clients to transform and design a landscape in an artistic composition that captures what is most important to the client. The goal is to create interest, strength, structure and beauty.

With lots of hard work, perseverance, self-determination, and the support of his family and community, Plain was able to overcome personal challenges that had set him back for a time. In recognition of his strengths, he received the Bertha Adams Award. In Aamjiwnaang, this is a significant recognition for those that have overcome personal challenges and are recognized role models.

Plain is (quite literally) paving the way for others to join him by learning the trade and obtaining employment with his company. He has partnered with Aamjiwnaang’s Employment and Training Department and is offering employment to community members. The shoreline project is significant for Aamjiwnaang’s waterfront.

“I would love to continue to hire more from the community; we have the pier installation starting this week, we just want to provide opportunities for the community and its members; helping out as much as we can!” expressed Plain. “FineArtscape Designs wants to do more than just a landscape company.”
