M’Chigeeng resident Catches the Ace for over $13,000.00!
ANISHINABEK NATION TERRITORY – Following the success of its inaugural Anishinabek Catch the Ace fundraising initiative in 2021, the Anishinabek Nation 7th Generation Charity (AN7GC) began its second instalment of this popular online weekly progressive raffle in October of 2022.
Weekly draws took place every Wednesday evening at 7:00PM EST, with weekly ticket sales split into three portions: 20 per cent to the weekly jackpot, 30 per cent to the progressive Catch the Ace jackpot, and 50 per cent to the AN7GC to be used to help support Anishinabek citizens in need across Ontario.
Each week, one lucky ticket holder won the weekly jackpot. In addition, they had an opportunity to win the progressive Catch the Ace jackpot by having their chosen numbered envelope opened to reveal a playing card. The coveted playing card that everyone was trying to catch was the Ace of Spades.
Since the Week #1 draw on October 19, 2022, weekly draws took place and the progressive Catch the Ace Jackpot continued to grow with each ticket purchased. On May 3, 2023, in the 29th week of the raffle, the winning ticket holder’s envelope #34 was opened to reveal the Ace of Spades!
A big congratulations goes out to the lucky winner, Barbara Osawabine of M’Chigeeng First Nation, who took home both the weekly jackpot and the progressive jackpot, totalling over $13,000.00!
“Following our inaugural raffle, we took a look at ways to make our second raffle bigger and better. Based on some feedback and brainstorming, we made some adjustments to the ticket prices, implemented a starting Jackpot of $5,000, and began weekly ‘bonus draws’, which proved to be popular,” said AN7GC Manager Jason Restoule. “We’re really happy with our second raffle, we can see the growth in popularity.”
Following the success of this second raffle, the Anishinabek Nation 7th Generation Charity is planning to start another Anishinabek Catch the Ace raffle in the early Fall.
“We’re really happy with our second raffle, we made some adjustments based on feedback we received to make it bigger and better, and it was just that,” Restoule said. “Our goal is to continue to make it grow, resulting in more funds being available to help our Anishinabek First Nation citizens in need across Ontario.”
The AN7GC is committed to improving the quality of life of Anishinabek citizens by providing financial support, where no other funding exists, in the areas of Education, Health, Youth, Elders, Culture, Social, Emergency Crisis, and Disaster Relief. The AN7GC is a self-sufficient charity relying fully on the success of its fundraising initiatives in order to support its goals and objectives, and with Catch the Ace, ticket buyers are making a difference.
“100 per cent of the success of this initiative is from ticket buyers,” says Restoule. “Whether the motivation to purchase tickets is to win the jackpot, the bonus prizes, or simply to support those in need, each ticket purchased helps make a positive difference. Chi-miigwech to all of those who participated over the past seven months! We are extremely appreciative of all the generous support.”
