POSITION: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

 

Waabnoong Bemjiwang Association of First Nations is looking for an energetic, dynamic and

experienced Executive Director.  As a Senior Executive, you will assist the Board of Directors in implementing the strategic direction for the organization.  As an Executive Director, you will inspire

and motivate others to succeed and help to build competent and empowered staff teams.  You will demonstrate a commitment to diversity and create a culture of learning and personal growth.

You will lead, manage and direct the daily operations of the Associations service delivery and

advisory support in accordance with its policies, procedures and guidelines as prescribed by the

Board of Directors.

Oversee the day-to-day operations.  The ideal person will possess excellent organizational and management skills, as well as good public relations and the ability to communicate clearly.

This position requires a skilled multi-tasker, reliable and is committed to consistently meeting deadlines.

The Executive Director is the liaison of information between the administrative operations of the Association and the Board of Directors and Council of Chiefs (members).

CLASSIFICATION: Permanent Full-Time

QUALIFICATONS AND PROFILE

Education, Knowledge & Experience

  • A university degree in Public/Business Administration from an accredited Canadian

University or related field is required, or

  • A 2-year college diploma in Public/Business Administration from an accredited Canadian Community College with additional 7 years of related work experience in a senior

management capacity

  • Must have 10 years overall related work experience of which 5 are in a personnel management capacity
  • 5 years demonstrated work experience in a senior level public service or management capacity with demonstrated budget preparation and financial planning
  • Must have proven experience working with First Nation Government, First Nation communities and other levels of Government
  • Excellent working knowledge of federal and provincial legislation and policies that affect First Nation government, and a sound knowledge of contemporary public sector operating systems and procedures are required
  • An innovative and decisive leader with high level organizational and managerial research analytical skills
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work with a high level of tact and discretion
  • Must demonstrate results – oriented management skills and work effectively with deadlines
  • Must possess excellent project management skills and must be able to establish and effectively achieve measurable objectives within directed work plans
  • Provide strong direction to the development and coordination of the Tribal Council in order to ensure solid growth and community support

Vision & Cultural sensitivity

  • Demonstrate knowledge, understanding of WBAFN’s member First Nations & operational structure would be an asset.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of traditions and the Seven Grandfather Teachings would be an asset

Technical Knowledge and Other Requirements

  • Computer software knowledge (Microsoft Office suite) required
  • Current valid Driver’s License, access to a reliable vehicle, ability to travel throughout region on occasion
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Must be bondable; provide Criminal/Police Records
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as member of a team
  • Organized, able to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Ability to effectively facilitate and present reports
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Must demonstrate high level professional ethics including maintenance of confidentiality
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada and or be a permanent resident of Canada

 

REMUNERATION: Will be based on education and work experience.
