Summer Student Positions
LOCATION: Nipissing First Nation Head Office
Duration: Contract to August 22, 2025
Wage: $17.20 per hour – 37.50 hours per week
Positions are subject to funding received
The Anishinabek Nation is seeking post-secondary students to join the organization in a variety of positions during the summer of 2025 to support the work plan goals and objectives of the organization.
Summer Students are invited to apply for any of the following exciting positions:
- Junior Administrative Officer (Labour Market Development Department – LMDD), and will have an interest or is attending post-secondary studies in: Accounting, Business Administration, Public/Office Administration, Research and Communications
- FASD and Diabetes Administrative Assistant (Health Secretariat) and will have an interest or is attending post-secondary studies in: Health, Nursing, FASD, Diabetes, Public/Health Administration, Office Administration, Event Planning, Workshops/Training
- Anishinaabemowin E-naadmaaged (Administrative Assistant – Anishinaabemowin Program) and will have an interest or is attending post-secondary studies in: Anishinaabemowin, Office Administration, Language Acquisition, Event Planning, Research, Social Media/Website/Graphic Design, Research and Communications
- Junior Economic Administrative Assistant (Lands and Resources – Economic Development) and will have an interest or is attending post-secondary studies in: Economic Development, Business Administration, Meeting and Event Management, Office Administration, Research and Communications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- First Nation and Inuit secondary and post-secondary students ages 15 to 30 inclusive, who are enrolled to begin or return to post-secondary school on a full-time basis for the 2025/2026 academic year;
- Strong interest in learning Anishinaabemowin language;
- Interest or experience in research, writing and communication skills;
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Social Media, and learning virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.);
- Knowledge or interest in advocacy for Anishinabek Treaty rights and related issues;
- Knowledge and interest in learning Anishinabek culture and initiatives of the Anishinabek Nation (Union of Ontario Indians);
- Must be available to travel to workshops and sessions, as required (all expenses covered);
- Ordinarily resident on reserve or in recognized communities or on community lands; and
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership and problem-solving skills;
- Possess organizational, communication skills and the ability to multi-task;
- Strong interest in advocacy for Anishinabek rights and priorities;
- Interest in learning new administrative skills as required;
- Learn and exhibit professional attitudes and behavior at it pertains to the workplace; and
- Interest in learning about employment opportunities at the Anishinabek Nation following post-secondary graduation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with daily duties, tasks and attend training as outlined in the summer student work plan;
- Assist in program research and communication activities;
- Collaborate with program staff, summer students and all other Anishinabek Nation staff;
- Participate in weekly Anishinaabemowin Classes;
- Assist with the development of systems and forms to support effective office operations;
- Assist in organizing meetings including preparation of packages, arranging travel requirements as requested;
- Attend all staff and committee meetings as required;
- Photocopying, faxing, arranging courier services;
- Handle incoming and outgoing mail;
- Other duties as assigned.
