Position: Junior Infrastructure Specialist
Supervisor: Executive Director
NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:
The primary role of the Junior Infrastructure Specialist will be to perform new and renovated housing inspections, provide advisory services regarding residential construction including building science and energy efficiency. This position will also assist the community members in keeping the buildings section of their Asset Management Systems current, accurate and functional with the inclusion of the Cityworks Inspection and Work Order system.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Participate in all Exams required to pass the OBOA building Inspector Certification.
- Conduct plans examinations and inspections on new housing at the required stages of construction as well as advise and inspect on renovations.
- Assist and advise on residential construction projects including building techniques, energy efficiency, contract administration and funding.
- Assist member communities with the Asset Management and Cityworks requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Planning and Management
- Compile and analyze data on demographics and housing conditions
Liaison
- Liaise with First Nations to ensure accurate communication and information is being properly disseminated.
- Consult with member First Nation staff, and /or external agencies on the design and general construction and maintenance of First Nation buildings.
Administration
- Provide weekly activity reports to the Executive Director.
- Provide bi-weekly expense claims to the Executive Director for approval
Training and Education
- Facilitate workshops to member communities as requested.
- Participate in continuous upgrading of education and training as required.
Implementation and Monitoring
- Maintain an inventory of all First Nation owned building assets.
- Monitor, assist and advise clients in all activities related to the annual or periodic Inspections of community facilities.
- Assist and advise clients in the updating of the Cityworks Maintenance Management program related to community buildings.
Working Conditions
- Work requires extensive travel and extensive interaction with member First Nations, requiring a valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
- Work has a high public profile and considerable public contact.
- Public office conditions that are subject to the stress of interruptions, peak periods, and tight unyielding deadlines that are set by stature and shifting priorities, High level sensitivity to Native issues.
- Work is subject to unscheduled hours.
Accountabilities
Accountable to the WBAFN Board of Directors, Government and Agency Funders, Professional Certification Bodies or Organizations, WBAFN Staff, WBAFN member First Nations, their employees and membership.
- All WBAFN Personnel and Operational Policies and Procedures to apply.
- To any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
