UCCM Anishnaabe Police Launch New Effort to Find Missing Woman, One Year On
Awareness video launched to generate new leads in ongoing investigation
M’CHIGEENG FIRST NATION (November 19, 2025) – Just over one year after 31-year-old Juanita Migwans went missing, the United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police Service (UCCM APS) is renewing its call for public assistance in the ongoing investigation. The case remains an active investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), in collaboration with UCCM APS.
Juanita, a member of M’Chigeeng First Nation, was last seen on October 4, 2024, on Riverside Drive in the community, located on Manitoulin Island, Ontario. Since then, police and community members have been searching tirelessly for answers.
To mark the one-year anniversary of her disappearance, UCCM APS released a new awareness video in hopes of generating fresh leads and encouraging anyone with information to come forward. Her family and friends remain deeply concerned for her well-being and continue to hold hope that new information will bring her home.
Juanita is described as approximately 5’6” tall, with brown hair, brown eyes, a fair complexion, and a slender build. She has multiple piercings on her right ear, including one in the middle of the ear, and distinctive tattoos: a bird carrying a ribbon reading, “THIS TOO SHALL PASS”, on her left foot, and a small heart on her left ankle. She was last seen wearing black pants and a black shirt.
Juanita’s disappearance is part of the ongoing national crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S+), which continues to devastate families and communities across Canada. According to the Assembly of First Nations, Indigenous women and girls make up 11% of all missing women in Canada despite representing only 4.3% of the population.
Anyone with information about Juanita Migwans’ whereabouts is urged to contact the dedicated tipline at 1-833-941-9010. Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
