Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn First Nation welcomes new Chief and Council

ALGONQUINS OF PIKWÀKANAGÀN FIRST NATION (April 1, 2026) — In an historic event, the Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn First Nation proudly swore in their new Chief and Council members today, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the leadership of the Nation.
Greg Sarazin was sworn in as the re-elected Chief of Pikwàkanagàn, alongside elected Council members: Dale Beniot, Kevin Lamarr Jr., Taylor Ozawanimke, Merv Sarazin, Ryan Carle, and Angelina Commanda.
“This election has brought many different perspectives, but today, we move forward as one Nation. Unity does not mean we always agree — it means we respect one another, we listen, and we work for the greater good of all. Our diversity of thought is not a weakness; it is a strength,” stated Chief Greg Sarazin. “Let us move forward with open hearts and steady minds. Let us choose respect over division, understanding over assumption, and action over inaction.”
The ceremony concluded with a celebratory feast and traditional dances, reaffirming the community’s strong cultural identity and commitment to honouring the teachings of their ancestors.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Makwa Community Centre, and was attended by community members, Elders, dignitaries, and guests who gathered to witness the change in leadership and celebrate the progress and future of Pikwàkanagàn.
During Saturday’s election day, a total of 683 ballots were cast.
