Summer Student Positions
WORKSITE LOCATION: Onsite at the Union of Ontario Indians Head Office (Nipissing First Nation)
Duration: Contract position starting June 1, 2026, to August 21, 2026
Wage: $17.60 Per Hour
Hours: 37.5 Hours per week
POSITIONS ARE SUBJECT TO APPROVED FUNDING
The Union of Ontario Indians (Anishinabek Nation) is seeking post-secondary students to fill a variety of summer student positions supporting the work plan goals and objectives of the organization.
Summer Students are invited to apply for the following positions:
- Junior Administrative Officer (Labour Market Development Department). Applicant has an interest in or is attending post-secondary studies in Accounting, Business Administration, Public/Office Administration and enjoys conducting research and preparing communications.
- Administrative Assistant (Health Secretariat). Applicant has an interest in or is attending post-secondary studies in Health, Nursing, FASD, Diabetes, Public/Health Administration, Office Administration and enjoys event planning (Workshops/Training).
- Governance and Nation Council Administrative Assistant (Governance Department). Applicant has an interest in or is attending post-secondary studies in Office Administration and enjoys conducting research, is familiar with the web and social media, has an interest in learning about Anishinabek Governance and Citizenship, Youth, Veterans, Social Justice and Anishinaabemowin.
- Junior Economic Development Administrative Assistant (Lands and Resources/Economic Development). Applicant has an interest in or is attending post-secondary studies in Economic Development or Business Administration and enjoys event planning, office administration, conducting research and preparing communications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- First Nation and Inuit secondary and post-secondary students ages 15 to 30 inclusive, who are enrolled to begin or return to post-secondary school on a full-time basis for the 2026/2027 academic year;
- Strong interest in learning Anishinaabemowin;
- Interest or experience in research, writing and communication skills;
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, social media, and learning virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.);
- Must be available to travel, as required (all expenses covered);
- Ordinarily a resident on reserve or in recognized communities or on community lands; and
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership and problem-solving skills;
- Excellent organizational and communication skills and be able to multi-task;
- Strong interest in advocacy for Anishinabek rights and priorities;
- Interest in learning new administrative skills;
- Able to maintain a professional attitude at all times in the workplace; and
- Be able to maintain confidentiality.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with day-to-day departmental activities;
- Implement student work plan;
- Assist in program research and communication activities;
- Collaborate with other summer students and staff;
- Participate in weekly Anishinaabemowin Classes;
- Assist with the development of systems and forms to support effective office operations;
- Assist in organizing meetings including preparation of packages, arranging travel;
- Attend all staff and committee meetings as required;
- Photocopying, faxing, arranging courier services;
- Handle incoming and outgoing mail; and
- Other duties as assigned.
