Indigenous faces in urban spaces: Three Sisters brings fashion and community to Toronto on November 15
October 20, 2026

TORONTO – For Three Sisters Indigenous Collective, creating a market or fashion show is about making room for Indigenous people to be seen, celebrated, and supported in the city. On November 15, the Toronto-based collective will host the Gawishigame-giizis Daagwaagin Fashion Show and Market at 58 Cecil Street, bringing together Indigenous designers, models, artists, vendors and community members for a day of fashion, creativity and connection.
Founded by Siera Hancharyk, Melissa Podnar, and Clara Peltier, Three Sisters is rooted in Anishinaabe identity and led by Indigenous kwe and youth. Their work centres on Indigenizing urban spaces and creating opportunities for Indigenous people from across Turtle Island to share their work and carry their identities proudly into these spaces.
The collective grew from a need for accessible places where Indigenous makers could sell their creations, build relationships, and grow their businesses. Their markets and fashion shows bring emerging and established creatives together, with particular care for Indigenous youth finding their footing.
Representation is at the heart of this work. Three Sisters wants Indigenous youth to see people who look like them on the runway, behind vendor tables and leading community events. They want artists to have room to grow without feeling they have to leave any part of themselves behind.
This year brings two significant milestones. Three Sisters has received its first grant from Toronto Arts Council, supporting the collective’s work to create space for Indigenous arts and community in Toronto.
The collective has also reached the Pow Wow Pitch Grand Finale, where they pitched for a $25,000 investment to help grow their work. They will find out live on October 21, 2026, whether they have won. For a grassroots initiative built through community relationships and the dedication of its organizers, reaching the finale is already a meaningful achievement.
The November 15 fashion show will be curated by Jocelyn Kagige of Minwaate Designs. The day will also include an Indigenous market and the Big Auntie “Deadliest Earrings” contest, bringing community style, humour, and celebration into the gathering. Everyone is welcome to attend, meet the makers, and support Indigenous creativity directly.
