Long-time Chief Douglas Daybutch passes into the Spirit World

UOI OFFICES (Nipissing FN) March 15, 2016 – Anishinabek Nation Grand Council Chief Patrick Madahbee mourns the passing of his friend and long-time beloved Chief Douglas Daybutch of Mississauga First Nation.

“I always appreciated Doug’s friendship,” says Grand Council Chief Madahbee. “He was a strategic planner; he always impressed me with his dignified and stately manner. We always shared lots of laughs. My condolences go out to his wife Gloria and his family.”

A long-time political figure in Mississauga politics in both in the positions of Chief or Councillor – Doug leaves behind a legacy. He was instrumental in the Land Claim which was settled in 1994 and added the large Northern Boundary to Mississauga First Nation. At the time the settlement was one of the largest land claims to be made and acknowledged.

Buildings such as the Dreamcatchers Complex, Mississauga Daycare and water plant were made possible by the ’94 Land Claim Settlement.

He’ll always be remembered by his legacy and his true caring and work for his community.
