Culture Days returns to celebrate creativity in Thunder Bay

THUNDER BAY (September 27, 2018) – The ninth annual national Culture Days event runs in Thunder Bay this Friday, Sept. 28, through Sunday Sep. 30. Presented by Ontario Power Generation, it gives citizens an opportunity to experience live music, art, film, dance, heritage and more.

“This year, the City has organized a hub of activity at Magnus Theatre,” said Ash Young, Cultural Development & Events Supervisor. “We have a series of free film screenings with artist talks. The highlight will be a free screening of the film ‘Indian Horse’ followed by a talk with the outstanding Edna Manitowabi, Professor Emeritus with Trent University’s Indigenous Studies program, who plays Naomi in the film.”

Local businesses, artists, community groups and cultural institutions have created over 30 engaging activities across our community for everyone to participate in this weekend. Features this year include the Franco-Festival from Club Culturel Francophone de Thunder Bay, a Sensory Tour of Uprising: The Power of Mother Earth with Betty Carpick, the Public Programming guru at Thunder Bay Art Gallery, and a Waterfront Public Art & Cultural Heritage walk with Laurie Abthorpe of the City Archives and Julie Cosgrove of the Thunder Bay’s Public Art Committee.

This year’s national theme is ‘OnBeat’, so keep an eye out for rhythm inspired fun. All Culture Days activities are free. Some may have limits on participant numbers or require pre-registration. All Culture Days presenters will have official “I Heart Culture Days”signs at their locations.
