Scores ‘hole-in-one’ on legendary hole #17

SUDBURY —  The odds of the average golfer are 12,500 to 1. Many golfers can go their whole career without EVER accomplishing such a feat.
Popular Anishinabek Nation Health secretariat team member Priscilla Goulais was enjoying her annual northern golf tour this week.  Despite the COVID-19 shortened season, the Nipissing First Nation citizen was enjoying a great summer vacation tour.
When she strode to the tee at the legendary hole #17 at the Idylwylde Golf and Country Club on Thursday, August 13  she was already having the best round of her 2020 season.   Reports of her fine round had already filtered back to the pro shop, and a marshal was quickly dispatched to report back on her progress.
The marshal parked his cart on the grassy knoll above the treacherous par 3, 17th.  While there had been several  “hole-in-ones” recorded at the other much easier  par 3 holes on the course this season, none had been recorded at #17 to date, by any male or female golfer.
The heavily bunkered, two-tiered elevated par 3 hole had a well-deserved reputation, as “Peril Everywhere”!  To add to the drama, a mere hint of a left to right gale was blowing in off nearby Lake Nephawin. The air was heavy as the thermometer topped 30 degrees Celsius.
With the pin tucked top right over the front bunker, Goulais opted for her driver with the distance to the pin measuring 153 yards on this fateful day.
Her playing partners husband Alex Maloney with Karen and Tony Jocko, witnessed the drive clear the front bunker by what appeared to be mere inches, hop once and then roll out of of sight.
Then came the excitement.
The perfectly positioned marshal began jumping up and down, while yelling loudly and gesturing wildly that the ball was in the hole!
After offering his congratulations, the club official sped back to the clubhouse.
The clubhouse was abuzz by the time Goulais and company made their way to the patio after completing their round.  Well-wishers were lined up to offer their congratulations on her accomplishing such a memorable feat!
The ever humble Priscilla, accepted all kudos gracefully, and rewarded herself with a new pair of golf shoes!
Well done Priscilla!  Please join us in congratulating Priscilla, on her auspicious achievement! While you are at it, check out her snazzy new shoes!
