Seeking Indigenous youth changemakers across Turtle Island to be part of a new TV series
MONTREAL (March 22, 2022) – Picture This Productions is seeking Indigenous youth ages 13 to 24 for a new TV series called Warrior Up! produced in association with The Aboriginal People’s Television Network (APTN) Premiering in 2023, Warrior Up! will follow Indigenous youth ages 13 to 24 across Turtle Island who are creating change in their communities and beyond!
Whether it’s standing on the frontlines, finding ways to protect the environment, learning or sharing traditional knowledge, bringing awareness to important issues, revitalizing their language or helping to encourage others, there are many ways to be a warrior. Our goal is to amplify these youth voices and help their actions grow stronger in this new documentary series!
“We’ve already have had many fantastic submissions from inspiring Indigenous youth across central and Western Canada. Now we’re putting a special call out to youth in the North –Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Nunavik, Nunavut, as well as Labrador and Newfoundland,” says Producer David Finch.
“But we’re still very happy to receive more submissions from all parts of Turtle Island – that includes both Canada and the US,” adds co-producer Maureen Marovitch.
The series will be hosted by Canadian Inuk actress Anna Lambe, originally from Iqaluit, (The Grizzlies and the CBC series Trickster), and Winnipeg community organizer, author and media personality Michael Redhead Champagne, a member of the Shamattawa First Nation, who most recently hosted APTN’s season 2 First Contact reunion. Anna, Michael, and our camera team will document the youth in their communities and learn about their activism first-hand, helping them grow their impact even bigger! The 13 x half hour series will be broadcast on APTN in English and Inuktitut versions (in Inuktutit under the title Sapilisuittut) in 2023 and will also connect with youth worldwide via short videos on social media platforms.
How can young people submit an application? Simply send a short video and/or e-mail introducing yourself! Be sure to include your name, age, telephone number, e-mail and the community/city/ province or state where you live. Guardians, parents and teachers can also submit with the youth (we do encourage youth under 16 to get permission before submitting). Please include details about how you’ve been a warrior – about the kind of project, activities, volunteer work, actions, and changes you’ve been doing. And we’d also like to hear about their future ideas and plans! What more would you like to make happen – and how can we help?
All questions, e-mails and videos should be sent to warriorup2022@gmail.com by midnight PST April 4, 2022.
