ENVIRONMENTAL COORDINATOR POSITION

The mandate of the United Chiefs and Councils of Mnidoo Mnising Tribal Council is to provide technical and advisory services to our six member First Nations in Ontario. The UCCMM requires the services of an Environmental Technologist to assist directly under the supervision of the UCCMM Technical Services Manager with issues related to First Nation in all areas environmental and specifically landfills and other technical advisory services. The Environmental Technologist will be located at the UCCMM main office in M’Chigeeng First Nation and will report directly to the UCCMM Technical Services Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To provide technical advice to First Nations as
  • Develop terms of reference for projects, assessing consultant proposals, coordinate meets with UCCMM First Nations, consultants and funding agencies, reviewing reports and other related duties.
  • Research and develop a database of UCCMM First Nations solid waste infrastructure and services in
  • Work with First Nations to assess their capacity to deal with environmental issues, particularly as it relates to solid waste management in UCCMM First Nations communities.
  • Develop and coordinate environmental training programs and workshops as needed, for UCCMM First Nations landfill sites, transfer stations, waste diversion, MTSAs.
  • Maintain a good network of contacts amongst the diverse client base of UCCMM, and advocate for improvements to the health and environment of First Nation people.
  • Work with and assist the UCCMM Technical Services Manager and other staff on environmental issues and policy as requested.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess an Environmental College Diploma or a Waste Management
  • Experience in    the    Environmental/Engineering     consulting    field    (writing/evaluating    reports, environmental audits, providing technical advisory services).
  • Must have an excellent understanding of environmental issues related to solid waste management, waste diversion, hazardous wastes, environmental management systems, and environmental audits.
  • Must have good project management
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, and Power
  • Strong analytical, evaluation and assessment
  • Must be self-motivated with excellent communication
  • Possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and ability to

 

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications
