NURSE PRACTITIONER (RN-EC)

Full-time w/Benefits – Comp # NBIH-2025-02-28

Location:  1040 Brookes Street in the Clinical Department

The North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH) provides a wide range of programming services including traditional healing, primary care, health promotion, chronic disease management, family-focused maternal/child health care, mental wellness care, diabetes care, and a culturally integrated licensed day care facility.  All of the programs are delivered in a culturally safe manner to the local urban Indigenous population in addition to our partner First Nations; Nipissing, Temagami and Dokis First Nations.  This North Bay Indigenous Hub seeks a motivated, self-starter who is passionate about positive health outcomes for Indigenous people.

Under the direction of the Executive Director of the North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH), this position will be responsible to assist in the delivery of culturally competent and safe health and patient care management as part of an inter-professional team at the North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH).

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous culture, traditions and language are considered assets;
• A Baccalaureate in Nursing and registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse Extended Class (RN/EC);
• Knowledge of Indigenous history, culture, and ways of being
• Current membership with RNAO, including professional liability insurance program;
• Ability to communicate and collaborate with clients, professionals, community partners, and stakeholders;
• Superior conflict management and negotiation skills;
• Demonstrated effective written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
• Knowledge of health promotion and disease prevention strategies with the ability to recommend or carry out appropriate therapeutic interventions;
• Sound knowledge of clinical therapeutics and excellent assessment skills;
• Ability to interpret and evaluate information to make appropriate clinical decisions;
• Excellent time management and organization skills to respond to fluctuating workload demands, and respond immediately to crisis;
• Knowledge of community health care programs and referrals;
• Knowledge of community agencies, services and programs;
• Ability to use both computer hardware and various software programs such as PS Suites for recording documentation and maintain accurate and up-to-date automated documentation on case files;
• The ability to maintain confidentiality and ethics and thorough knowledge of PHIPA;
• Appreciation for the diversity of services offered at the Hub including traditional healing and mainstream services;
• Openness to the two-eyed seeing approach to wellness;
• Ability and willingness to work independently and co-operatively as an integral member of a primary health care team;
• Experience with electronic medical records;
• Current First Aid/CPR, WHMIS certification;
• Understanding of the Mental Health and Child, Youth & Family Services Acts;
• Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours if necessary;
• Ability to travel as required;
• Must have own reliable vehicle; and
• Other related duties.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

• Conduct patient interviews and taking medical histories;
• Performing duties within the scope of practice of the RN(EC) including; conducting complete and focused physical assessments, communicating health findings and diagnoses, prescribing treatments and medications, ordering laboratory tests, ordering diagnostic imaging;
• Providing health education and counselling related to identified health issues;
• Consulting and collaborating with other professional staff concerning clinical issues;
• Providing training and functional guidance to professional staff and others;
• Participating in the development, implementations and evaluation of policies, procedures and protocols to ensure comprehensive and consistent delivery of excellent client care;
• Developing and administering a health care plan appropriate to client needs, including in participating in case management and referral to healthcare and/or social agencies;
• Interpreting results and determining diagnoses, recommending therapeutic plan, which may include prescribing medication, health education, and/or referral to health care professionals and/or appropriate health services;
• Ensuring proper monitoring/follow up care with clients;
• Promoting and evaluating services provided and modifying as necessary;
• Working collaboratively with health care providers in providing excellent client care using evidence-based practice;
• Documentation as per college standards of practice;
• Participating in appropriate staff development activities and sharing learning with other members of the health care team;
• Maintaining clinical knowledge through continuing educational endeavors;
• Managing complex cases with multiple co-morbidities including physical and psychological diagnoses;
• Must be willing to travel to our partner First Nations and have a valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License.

A current Criminal/Police Records Check and Vulnerable Persons check is a requirement for this position.
