CURVE LAKE FN –Visitors to Whetung Ojibwa Centre are used to seeing work on display by such well-known Indigenous artists as Norval Morrisseau, Arthur Shilling, Leland Bell, and Rick Beaver.

But this month the gallery will feature paintings by five unknown artists, all students at Ridpath Junior Public School in the nearby village of Lakefield.

“We will have their art on display starting June 20,” says Rachel Whetung, daughter of gallery owner Michael. “On June 24th – during the Educational Pow-Wow here at Whetung’s — the young artists will be present to explain and hopefully sell their work. All of the proceeds will go directly to these young Aboriginal Artists.

“We really want to make this a positive event for these young artists.”
