WORKSITE LOCATION: On-site at the Union of Ontario Indians Head Office in Nipissing First Nation 

 

Full-time Position with Benefits, including a defined contribution pension plan starting day one and employer-paid group insurance following three months of employment, in accordance with plan terms.

Salary Range$63,621 to $72,103 

  

Under the direction of the Manager of Social Development and Koganaawsawin, the Youth Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination, and administration of the Anishinabek Nation Youth program. This includes providing support to First Nations in the development and delivery of youth-focused initiatives, maintaining strong partnerships with community staff and youth leadership bodies, and ensuring that all program activities align with established goals and objectives.  

This role includes significant responsibility for administering program finances and monitoring expenditures within approved budgets and ensuring compliance with organizational financial policies, procedures, and funding agreements.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Post-Secondary diploma or degree in the Social Sciences or Child & Youth Services field; 
  • A minimum of three years of experience working with First Nation youth and communities in planning, coordination or delivery of youth programs and services; 
  • Experience administering program budgets, monitoring expenditures, processing financial documentation, and ensuring compliance with organizational financial policies and procedures; 
  • Experience facilitating and supporting committees or advisory groups, or similar engagement initiatives, considered an asset; 
  • Knowledge and understanding of Anishinabek culture, traditions, practices, and Anishinabek Nation Communities; 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and relevant computer systems, programs and software) and able to learn new technologies and tools;  
  • A Vulnerable Sector Check completed within the last 12 months; and 
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License, be insurable under the organization’s vehicle insurance policy, and be willing and able to travel regularly for work-related events, meetings, and other duties as required.

  • Ability to engage, support and build positive relationships with First Nations Youth; 
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial administration and record management; 
  • Ability to use social media and digital communication platforms to support youth engagement and program priorities; 
  • Exhibit professionalism, sound judgement and ethical conduct; and 
  • Ability to understand and speak Anishinaabemowin or a willingness to learn. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Administer financial documentation and processes related to Youth programs, including purchase requests, invoices, expense claims, and other financial records, ensuring compliance with funding agreements, organizational procedures, and financial policies; 
  • Monitor program expenditures and manage program activities within approved budgets, maintaining accurate financial records and supporting financial reporting and compliance requirements; 
  • Liaise with Anishinabek Nation communities on Youth Initiatives and provide administrative support to First Nation Youth Program staff; 
  • Establish and maintain a Youth Steering Committee comprised of representatives from each of the four regions to guide the implementation of Youth programs; 
  • Work collaboratively with the Anishinabek Nation Youth Council to support the planning, implementation and evaluation of Youth initiatives; 
  • Plan, coordinate and facilitate youth gatherings as identified by the Youth Steering Committee and the Manager; 
  • Demonstrate cultural knowledge through the teaching and sharing of practices with Anishinabek Nation Youth Program staff; 
  • Respond to general program inquiries and ensure appropriate and timely follow up; 
  • Prepare agendas, workshop and meeting materials, arrange and coordinate meeting facilities and other logistical requirements as required; 
  • Gather and develop resources to support Anishinabek Nation Youth programs; 
  • Maintain knowledge of current social services policies and programs as it relates to the Anishinabek Nation, and attend relevant training opportunities; 
  • Provide support and information to First Nations through written correspondence and reports as approved by the Manager;  
  • Coordinate and liaise with political organizations and various government departments on all social services issues as required; and 
  • Perform other Duties as assigned.
