Anishinabek Nation applauds Chief Isadore Day

UOI OFFICES (Nipissing First Nation) February 27, 2015 – The Anishinabek Nation applauds Serpent River Chief and Lake Huron Regional Chief Isadore Day for his open letter to Canada’s Federal Parliamentarians. The topic of the letter is ““A National Dialogue on Ending Racism in Canada – a Path toward Healing”.

Chief Day’s letter suggests “That a motion be brought forward promptly in the House of Commons to set aside April 12th as an annual day for a ‘National Dialogue on Ending Racism in Canada.’ Further; that a bill be established and put forward, in this 41st Parliament, as a way to institutionalize a Government of Canada commitment toward eradication of Racism in this country.”

“We urge the Federal Parliamentarians to seriously consider the recommendations in this letter ” stated Anishinabek Nation Grand Chief Patrick Madahbee.

In the 2007 United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, to which Canada is signatory:  States shall take effective measures to combat prejudice and illuminate discrimination and to promote tolerance, understanding and good relations among indigenous peoples and all other segments of society.
